Ryanair moves to stop hold baggage

Michael O'Leary, Ryanair's Chief Exec has unveiled plans to dramatically reduce the number of passengers checking on hold baggage.

His plan is to slowy increase the cost of checking in baggage to try and incentivise people to only carry hand luggage.

His vision is for only 1 in 4 people flying on a Ryanair flight to have baggage in the hold. He has hailed this as a "Real" way of keeping the costs of Ryanair flights to a minimum.

Ryanair and Easyjet publish September Passenger figures

Budget airlines easyjet and Ryanair have announced an increase in passenger number for September despite the current problems facing the aviation sector.

Statistics published on the easyjet website showed 4,197,643 passengers travelled with the airline which was a 22.1% passenger increase compared to the September 2007 passenger figures of 3,438,301. The airlines load factor was also published showing an increase from 85.2% to 86.9% a change of 1.8pp.

One of their main competitors Ryanair also released their passenger figures for September, also indicating increased growth. Their figures showed a 20% increase in passenger numbers from 4.35 million to 5.23 million passengers.

The Head of Communications for Ryanair Stephen McNamara commented on the figures by stating;

"Having achieved record passenger numbers throughout the summer we showed no sign of slowdown in September with 5.23million passengers taking advantage of Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares and no fuel surcharge.
A lot of price sensitive leisure passengers have switched from rival, high fares airlines, to Ryanair. However, in light of the current crisis in banking and financial institutions we are confident that we will soon seen more bankers migrate to Ryanair also. Tougher economic times will see these bankers tighten the purse strings and save time and money by taking advantage of our guaranteed lowest fares and our unrivalled punctuality."

Easyjet boss warns of a "Tough Year"

EASYJET'S chief executive yesterday echoed the grim warning by his Ryanair counterpart that many airlines were not going to survive the economic downturn.

Andy Harrison said he expected the aviation sector to face a "very tough" consumer environment next year.

Easyjet is the second biggest carrier at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA), flying to around 20 destinations.

The airline is being hit by high oil prices, and the company recently warned that annual profits could be as much as 42% lower than last year as it faced up to an increase of pounds 185m in its annual fuel bill.

It hopes to offset more than 50% of the price hikes through revenues growth and cost savings, and has vowed to be "relentless" in addressing costs and efficiency.

New Airport Pages Added

We have just uploaded four new pages of airport information to the site.
  1. Biarritz Airport
  2. Grenoble Airport
  3. Marseille Airport
  4. Nice Airport

Each of these four airport will in turn have plenty of sub-pages with detailed information on all aspects of travelling to and using the airports including a France Car Hire page specific to that airport as well as information about arrivals, departures, parking, taxis, buses, shopping, restaurants and even a live 10 day weather forecast.

Obviously there is a lot of work to do here so please bear with us and we will endeavour to get these sub-pages built as soon as possible.

We also intend to build pages about all the other airports that have direct flights to and from the UK so be sure to bookmark our url and check back regularly.

No hand luggage weight restrictions on Easyjet flights

You can carry hand luggage on Easyjet flights without fear of weight restrictions. Easyjet say that as long as your bag fits the size restriction for hand baggage they will not limit you on weight (obviously within reason).

Forgotten your driving licence?

I have just spoken to someone who tells me that they had friends who arrived at Carcassonne Airport all set to collect their hire car when they realised that they had forgotten their driving licence.

Aparently they got on the phone to the DVLA in Swansea (0870 240 0009) who were able to email their driver details over to the hire company.

A useful bit of information I thought.
